The Simpsons Movie (2007)

It’s funny.  Let me just start by saying that.  It really is.  It is 87 minutes of funny in the way ‘The Simpsons’ has been funny for 18 years but with a little more sass and reveal.

Okay, with that said, it still could have been funnier, longer and more risque.  It could have been less predictable and we could have seen more of the dozens of characters we have spent 18 years getting to know.

The story follows Lisa protesting the pollution of Lake Springfield as Homer gets a pet pig and the aftermath of these two occurances colliding.

The voice work is as good as ever, with the addition of Albert Brooks as the head of the EPA, bringing the same excellence he brought to ‘Finding Nemo’.

Yet with all the risks they take, it comes out as one long episode.  Funny and smart, but not taking it to that next level in the way ‘South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut’ did.

I had fun, had a laugh, and I just wanted more.

Grade: B+
